Jitske Kramer has been a trainer/coach in the area of interpersonal communication, leadership and teamwork in an international/culturally diverse setting since 1998. In that time, she has facilitated countless managers, expats and multicultural teams, drawing on her background as a cultural anthropologist. Sometimes in the Netherlands, tackling questions such as 'how can we achieve greater diversity within our organisation?' and 'we have a very inward-looking culture we would like to break out of'. At other times internationally, tackling issues such as 'how to best manage a global team' and 'our management culture no longer matches our aims and people'.
Her approach is based around the dynamic situation, the cultural paradoxes and polarities, that arises when people experience (cultural) differences. Together with an organisation, she answers the question: how to manage and influence these cultural dynamics most effectively.
In 2006, she set up the international network organisation HumanDimensions, with the specific aim of being able to respond to requests from clients in the areas of diversity and change, through a network of passionate, specialised trainers, coaches and consultants. HumanDimensions is an Associated Practice of the ViralChange™ network, which has developed a method for achieving real changes in behaviour within organisations quickly and effectively. A pleasant alternative to the long and painful processes of cultural change.
Jitske Kramer:
“Working with people who are different means not relying on your ‘automatic pilot’. I enjoy the challenge of facilitating people in dealing more flexibly and creatively with differences, and the creation of new routines. My strength is my ability to enter into confrontations from a helpful standpoint and to reveal clichés, routines, polarisations and ingrained cultural frames of reference. Naturally, at the same time offering skills and tools to enable the dynamics of diversity to really be put into positive use.”
Jitske has written about her vision and method of working in and with diversity in her 2009 book ‘Managing Cultural Dynamics’ (original Dutch title: ‘Normaal is anders!’). Jitske frequently speaks on these issues in the Netherlands and throughout the world (Dubai, Frankfurt, Jakarta, Melakka, Singapore, York).
